Alanna Rygelski is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a recent graduate of Slippery Rock University; Alanna holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance/Choreography and Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Marketing Communication. Alanna is the oldest of four children and began dancing with her younger sisters at the age of 5. Starting with ballet, jazz, tap and acrobatics, Alanna quickly fell in love with the art form and further went on to study contemporary and hip-hop. Dancing competitively under Kelsey Romea at Kelsey’s Dance and Fitness Center, Alanna has won numerous awards and assisted with classes that sparked her love for teaching.

At Slippery Rock University, Alanna was an active member of the dance department serving as the National Honorary for Dance Arts President, Student Advisory Board Co-President and Public Relations/Social Media chair for the Palenque: Colombian Dance Ensemble Performance group. She interned with FORGE Summer Dance Intensive during the Spring of 2020 and interned with Mark DeGarmo Dance during the winter and spring terms of her senior year performing arts administrative tasks and combining her knowledge of Integrated Marketing Communication.

 

Alanna has also performed in works by her peers and set work on her peers through Slippery Rock University Dance Theatre. Alanna has performed in Adjudication, Fall and Winter concerts throughout her time at SRU as well as the Faculty & Guest Artist Concert where she performed work by Francine Ott, Melissa Teodoro and Luis Fernando Trouchon. Alanna received the Lucy Isacco Sack Scholarship during the summer of 2019 to study in Cartagena, Colombia and learn traditional choreography. Recently, Alanna participated in a Yoga Teacher Training through Yoga Alliance and is working towards her 200-hour Yoga Training certificate.  Alanna was awarded the "Outstanding Service" award by the SRU Department of Dance for her dedication and leadership to the organizations listed above.
