Teaching Statement

I believe the classroom is a safe, open and respectful space to engage with each other, share our knowledge and grow our artistic identity. No matter the age of my students, I believe we can all learn from each other and expand our minds to understand this world a little better. I will encourage the sharing of ideas, thoughts and beliefs while building upon learning objectives and using critical thinking to achieve success. My classes will include improvisational based movement warm-ups and somatic practices to connect students with their breath. From there, my class will progress towards contemporary and modern based movement that focusses on lines, angles, dynamics and release. While striving to achieve the physicality of the art form, I will also push my students to dive deeper into their creative process by providing exercises, small group work and independent reflection time to connect with how both a student’s body and mind is embodying the work.
